IPHC Plans to Rebuild Haitian Communities

Darrel and Bonnie Clowers are IPHC missionaries to the Dominican Republic. They are leading our Haiti disaster relief efforts, and they sent additional information today concerning the plan to assist Haitian communities.

First, the Clowers continue to coordinate flights of emergency relief supplies into Haiti. Food, water, medicine, and other supplies are being purchased in the Dominican Republic, and the supplies are flown directly to our Haitian church leaders in Port-au-Prince for distribution. The supplies are distributed to people staying at the IPHC ministry complex in northwest Port-au-Prince, which is located in a neighborhood that was severely damaged.

Since Matt Bennett reports that he saw no other aid distributed in this area, People to People desires to keep sending supplies. Cash donations to People to People's Haiti relief fund allow our the Clowers to purchase these supplies, and the direct flights into Haiti provided for free by Agape Flights. It costs over $2000 to fill a plane with supplies, so churches are urged to donate generously to People to People's disaster relief fund.

In addition to emergency supplies, the IPHC will work to rebuild Haitian churches and communities. We will follow a three-phase strategy.

  1. Repairing the Compound to House Teams
There is a 200 yard breach in the perimeter wall. The back wall is leaning, but is possible that it may
all. So, we are trying purchase cement and have our Haitian brothers repair this wall. The plumbing a and electrical are in disarray and a small team is doing that repair. They will fix the showers, toilets and electrical problems.
  2. Providing needed items
Cartain items are difficult or extremely expensive to purchase in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Thus, we plan to ship the following to Haiti as soon as possible:

    • Shipping Containers
    • 2 Distribution Vehicles – Rugged and off-Road Trucks
    • Bull Dozer
    • Back Hoe
    • Cement Mixer
    • 4 Portable Generators Honda EU2000i
    • 2 Larger Generators At least 6500 watts
    • Water Purifications Systems
    • Tools - Shovels, Pick Axes, Sledge Hammers, Wheel Barrels
    • 28 – 32 Extension ladders
    • PVC Pipes and Fittings

We also need the following medical supplies or money to purchase them:

    • Anti-biotic
    • Wound Care
    • Pain Medicines
    • Vitamins for Adults and Children
    • Wheel Chairs
    • Crutches
    • Braces

    • Diabetes Medicines
    • Asthma Medicines
    • o Allergy Medicines
    • o Bandages
    • o Wraps
    • o General Clinic Needs

3 Agape planes left today, full of food and supplies for our churches in Haiti

Darrel and Bonnie Clowers informed us that 3 Agape planes left this morning, carrying 4000lbs of food and supplies! Praise God for His provision and grace upon our national leaders and missionaries!

It takes about $2,200 to buy 2500lbs of food; thank you for your continual prayers and financial support. Agape flights will continue to fly our supplies at no cost from the Dominican Republic to Haiti if we can fill the planes.

The Clowers shared that they are in desperate need of vehicles. If you know of anyone wanting to donate a truck, please contact our office at 1-888-474-2966 ext. 3212. Vehicles can be shipped in containers or money can be donated to purchase them in the Dominican Republic.

According to the latest reports we have received, the damage on our churches has been minimal, as well as the number of deaths in our families. We are thankful to God for His protection.

Let's keep praying, giving, and doing all we can to help our brothers and sisters from Haiti, in such a desperate time of need.

Haiti Disaster #15

Haitians staying at IPHC compound in Port-au-Prince need water, food, medicine, and fuel

The IPHC's initial response team in Haiti reports that the compound in Port-au-Prince has sustained some damage to a security wall, but the buildings are standing. Nearly all the homes surrounding the compound have been completely destroyed, including the homes of many IPHC members. Many local families and IPHC believers are staying at the church compound. The team reports that there is an urgent need for food, water, medicine, and fuel at the compound to assist these survivors.

Monetary donations to People to People's disaster relief fund will allow our missionaries and churches in the Dominican Republic to purchase supplies for distribution in Haiti. Because of the high costs and delays associated with international shipping, cash donations are prefered over donations of needed items. To give instantly online, please click here.

Nevertheless, donated items can be shipped to the following address. Please contribute $1.50 per pound to Darrel and Bonnie Clowers' ministry account (#66044) to cover the cost of shipping the items to Haiti.

IPHC Assessment Team Reaches Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Daniel Clowers and Darrel Clowers with one of the soldiers with which they shared a bus from Santo Domingo to Port-au-princeAfter two days of travel, the IPHC's initial assessment team safely reached Port-au-Prince, Haiti this evening. The team arrived after dark, so they have not began assessing the damage to the IPHC's schools and churches in Haiti. They are staying at a mission compound tonight and will begin assessment and relief efforts in the morning.

Communication with the team and our Haitian leaders has been difficult because of the extensive damage. To date, we have few details about the welfare of our IPHC members and the children in People to People's sponsorship programs. We urge continued prayer for their safety, and encourage people to donate generously to People to People's disaster relief fund.

Darrel Clowers joined Bennett, Daniel Clowers, and Sprinkle as they took a bus from Santo Domingo, DR to Port-au-Prince.

Update from the Clowers

This is an update from Darrel and Bonnie Clowers, IPHC missionaries to a few countries in Latin America

"Many people have come to the Dominican Republic, and their hearts were captured by two boys. Their names are Euri and Dioni Felix Aquino. God has used many IPHC teams and individuals to shower His love on this family. The first gift of love was given by the Heartland team and Bridge Builder Int., when they brought 2 brand new wheel chairs for them. Then they were added to the People to People program and was sponsored by people from the Heartland team. They, along with their mother Ida, have greatly appreciated the assistance. Last year, we found out that they had to move to a horrible little shack. The home had dirt floors and a roof that leaked buckets full of water. The boys were constantly wet and sick. Their beautiful wheelchairs were ruined. But God provided new chairs again for them. These bright and sweet boys were prisoners in this home, unable to move even in wheel chairs.

"Last summer, Chadbourn PH of the North Carolina Conference came and repaired this broken house. They pulled floors, put in windows, fixed the roof and made the shack a home. Ida, Euri and Dioni were thrilled with this act of extravagant love. Words escaped them, and often tears of gratitude would flood their eyes. The boys were grateful for all that was done, but they still had a longing of their heart yet unfulfilled. Because of their handicap, they have never been able to attend school. The transportation is quite expensive - $75 a month per child. For a mother who makes very little, the cost made it impossible. So, besides the pain of not attending school, the boys were left alone while their mother worked. This was a humiliating and lonely experience for the boys.

"God again moved on their behalf and has provided the funds necessary to this ministry (by faith) to pay for their transportation. Nothing is impossible for God. Euri and Dioni attend our school in Santa Barbara. They are so bright and capable that they finish long before their classmates and assist many of them as well. Euri is the oldest and is a natural leader. He was elected president of the student body. Dioni, when given the chance, will preach. Little is much when God is in it! It makes you wonder what God is going to do in them and through them.

In our weakness, God's strength is made perfect. These young men are mighty in God."
